Research Interests

I use SLAC’s x-ray laser to take snapshots of atomic motion at the fastest timescales and shortest distances. This allows us to observe, for example, how atoms rearrange during a phase transition, how heat propagates at nanoscale dimensions, or how charges move in a battery material. This knowledge gives us microscopic clues on how to design new materials with interesting technological properties.

Projects

Ultrafast visualization of phase transitions Ultrafast laser manipulation of the structure of materials Charge and energy transport in energy-related and nanoscale materials.
