Full-time faculty positions in Quantum Information Science (QIS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for one or more full-time faculty positions in Quantum Information Science (QIS), including both theory and experiment, in the departments of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics. QIS is strongly supported at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a $15M investment in the new Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology center (IQUIST), in addition to a $100M state investment in a new quantum research center. Senior and mid-career faculty are encouraged to apply, but all qualified candidates will be considered at all levels.

A Ph.D. or equivalent is required, along with the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to conduct a vibrant, cutting-edge research program. Ideal candidates include those who demonstrate evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service endeavors. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualification.

Details on each of the searches are as follows:
Department of Computer Science:
We have one or more open-rank faculty positions in Quantum Information. Areas of interest include quantum algorithms and complexity theory, quantum communication and cryptography, as well as programming languages, networking, systems and architectures for
enabling quantum computing.

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering:
We seek strong candidates working in the areas of quantum communication, quantum computing, quantum sensing and/or quantum information theory, with an emphasis on device implementation and design.

Department of Physics:
Experimental and theoretical physicists from all subfields of QIS—including computation, communication, materials, sensing, and fundamental and applied science—and working with various platforms (e.g., solid state and AMO) are encouraged to apply.

Department of Mathematics:
Mathematical quantum information science (QIS) is part of a larger UIUC interdisciplinary focus on quantum information science and technology. Mathematicians working in any field related to QIS, in particular quantum information theory, are encouraged to apply; the position will be filled at the tenure-track level.

The University of Illinois is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer. Minorities, women, veterans and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
